Christopher Clubb and Jake Desmarais describe themselves as fun loving with senses of humor trending to the side of rye.
They’ll let you have fun at their expense if you’re willing to allow them to have fun at yours, too.
So, if they sound like your type, they say they’ve started a business that may just be for you and your special occasion.
The name of their home-based business is Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, because that’s literally what they do.
For as little as $10, Clubb and Desmarais will arrive at your event with the color of ribbon you’ve selected and a pair of stands they built themselves. A personal ribbon cutting ceremony includes photos and videos, a speech, and your own “cheering crowd” if you need one, Clubb says.
“We’re not looking to get rich,” says Clubb of the two-person business. “For us, it’s really about the fun of doing it.”
Clubb, 33, and Desmarais, 21, work together as baristas at the Rocket Bakery, at 1325 W. First, west of downtown Spokane. The two came up with the concept as they contemplated a variety of business ideas.
“We would run our ideas past friends, family, and a lot of our customers. And this was the one idea that people loved,” he says.
They say business has been slow, but they’re hoping for an uptick as the weather warms and people return outside for community functions and gatherings, Clubb says.
“We can do formal. We can do informal, but most of all we want to do what’s fun,” Clubb says.
