Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, has been selected as the general contractor/construction man–ager for the planned Northeast Middle School, to be constructed in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood.
Greg Forsyth, director of capital projects and planning for Spokane Public Schools, says the school district’s board selected Bouten at its March 18 meeting.
“We’re happy to have Bouten on board early so that they can help us with questions that may arise around the site or around the construction capabilities,” he says.
Forsyth says the district is in the initial stages of planning the project, which is expected to cost $43 million. Funding for the project comes from the $495.3 million bond Spokane voters passed in 2018. The 140,000-square-foot school will have two or three stories, and Forsyth expects enrollment of between 750 and 825 students.
Forsyth says early site work will begin around mid-summer, and demolition of a few buildings on the site will need to take place before construction can begin.
MMEC Architecture & Interiors, of Spokane, is designing the school, which is expected to open in August 2022.
