The city of Spokane Valley is planning to move forward with all of its planned public projects and has moved up some start dates due to the school closures, says city spokesman Jeff Kleingartner.
Included in Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” mandate was the halt of all residential and commercial construction projects unless they supported essential industries.
However, public entities, such as the city, were given leeway to determine what public projects of theirs were considered essential.
The city of Spokane Valley has nearly $46 million in public projects planned for this year, a number of which are ongoing, with others slated to begin before summer.
•The $800,000 North Sullivan Road intelligent transportation system project is scheduled to begin May 11 and be completed in mid-July. The project went out to bid in early March.
•Sidewalk work on Adams Road is scheduled to begin in early May and be completed in late June. Similar work on Ella and Conklin roads started April 20 and is expected to be completed by late June.
•Preservation work on Indiana Avenue from Evergreen to Sullivan roads is expected to begin May 4 and wrap up by the end of July. The project has a valuation of $3.1 million.
•Barker Road corridor work valued at $4.5 million between the Spokane River and Euclid Avenue is slated to begin in mid-June and be completed in September.
Spokane Valley also is continuing its work on the $2.5 million Appleway Trail expansion between Evergreen and Sullivan roads. The project is expected to be completed in mid-June, Kleingartner says.
In an upcoming project, the city is seeking consultant-design team bids for the first phase of the Balfour Park Improvements project to create a central community gathering space incorporating Balfour Park and a planned new library on property across from the Spokane Valley City Hall.
Bids are due by May 8.
