Denver, Colorado-based Kodiak Building Partners has added two Rathdrum-based construction companies to its growing portfolio.
Mandere Construction Inc. and Northwest Building Components Inc. have been acquired by the building materials supply and distribution investment company.
Mandere Construction is a residential and commercial framing and installation services company, and Northwest Building Components manufactures roof and floor trusses. The two companies operate on 12 acres of land located at 13964 N. Ohio, in Rathdrum. They have over 250 employees collectively.
Kodiak, founded in 2011, is an investment company comprised of family-owned businesses that offers support of administrative services, such as finance, human resources, insurance, information technology, and growth guidance.
Cally Fromme, vice president of communications for Kodiak, says, “Safety, insurance, all of that stuff becomes more cumbersome as time goes on. If you’re a one-location business, or even a 10-location business, it can get pretty hard to keep up with everything.”
The two companies will retain their employees, Fromme says.
Companies acquired by Kodiak keep most aspects of their culture, she says, adding, “Everyone gets to keep their own employees and keep the decision making at the local level.”
Both Mandere and Northwest Building will retain their respective names, Fromme says. John Mandere, founder and president of the two companies, has become an investor in Kodiak and will maintain his role as president of both Mandere and Northwest Building.
She declines to disclose terms of the transaction, which the companies completed on June 1.
Mandere says in a press release, “I can’t wait to get back to more customer-facing activities. My local touchpoints are a large part of Mandere’s success, and having the ability to again concentrate on what really matters to our customers can only mean more growth and profitability.”
The acquisition marks Kodiak’s 25th transaction. Kodiak companies employ over 3,000 people at 81 locations in 17 states, including Washington, Idaho, and Oregon.
Mandere Construction has been involved in hundreds of projects throughout the Inland Northwest. The company has worked with Greenstone Corp. on the construction of multiple Kendall Yards neighborhood apartment complexes, as well the Spa Paradiso and Inlander building at 1227 W. Summit Parkway.
It also worked on the Second Harvest of the Inland Northwest food bank headquarters at 1234 E. Front in Spokane.
