StanCraft Jet Center is expanding its ongoing development plans in North Idaho with the addition of a 57,200-square-foot hangar at Coeur d’Alene Airport-Pappy Boyington Field.

Construction on the StanCraft Jet Center began last year. As previously reported by the Journal, Hayden-based StanCraft Boat Co. decided in late spring of 2019 to expand its offerings to include aviation services by establishing StanCraft Jet Center as a fixed-base operator at the airport north of Coeur d’Alene.

Construction on the jet center’s original two hangars is ongoing and is expected to be completed this fall, StanCraft president and co-owner Robb Bloem says via email.

“The facility will act as a new gateway to North Idaho for the private aviation industry, helping to create new jobs and (bring) revenue to the area,” Bloem says.

The steel building will be the FBO’s third hangar. Bloem says the hangar, valued at $7.5 million, is expected to take a year to complete. In total, the cost of constructing the FBO is about $15 million.

Bloem says the company had planned to go ahead with the third hangar if it could receive enough funding from the Panhandle Area Council. However, when it became clear the economic development council wouldn’t be able to provide the funding, StanCraft decided to fund the expansion privately.

The hangar is being built at 11924 N. Atlas Road by Coeur d’Alene-based contractor Young Construction Group of Idaho Inc. Eric Hedlund Design LLC, of Coeur d’Alene, is acting as architect and designer on the project, and the Spokane office of DCI Engineers is providing engineering services.

StanCraft Jet Center will offer jet interior refitting, as well as jet refueling, conference rooms, waiting and pilot areas, and offices for lease.

StanCraft Boat Co. is located just south of the airport, at 2936 W. Dakota. The maker of hand-built wooden boats was established in 1933 in Lakeside, Montana, before moving to Post Falls in the 1980s. StanCraft moved into its current 30,000-square-foot headquarters and production facility in Hayden in 2016.

As previously reported by the Journal, StanCraft Jet Center announced plans in February for a $4.5 million, 35,660-square-foot hangar at Spokane International Airport. The hangar is being developed by Scottsdale, Arizona-based The Wolff Co., which has an office in Spokane. The company hasn’t released a time line for that project.
