Big things are happening in the Inland Northwest.
What's more encouraging is, those big things are happening in a variety of sectors and in most every part of the region.
Up north, Greenstone Corp. is prepared to start building the first houses in its $1 billion Mead Works development. Over the next 20 years, 1,400 living units of all types and 1 million square feet of commercial space will be built on the old Kaiser Aluminum property.
Much sooner, a $22 million North 40 Outfitters store is taking shape that will anchor a retail center in Mead. That development is north of the North Spokane Corridor, the $1.5 billion highway project that's proceeding south, over the Spokane River and toward Interstate 90. While some work on that project has been delayed, it's moving forward and expected to be completed in 2030.
Just off the North Spokane Corridor route, in East Spokane, Jubilant HollisterStier is continuing the second phase of the $285 million expansion of its pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging plant.
Moving eastward into Coeur d'Alene, one major hotel project is underway in the tourism destination's core, and another expected to start later this year. Together, the new Marriott-brand AC Hotel and the Sherman Tower expansion of the Coeur d'Alene Resort are expected to cost $73 million to complete.
Those are just a few examples of the large-scale projects the Journal newsroom is reporting on in this year's Building The Inland Northwest. There's much more to read about in other sectors and in other parts of the region.
Each year, we publish this magazine to update readers on the most significant projects in our market. Some are nearly finished; others won't start for months. Regardless of their stage of development, all have the potential to provide jobs and improve quality of life in our communities.
