What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job was working as an efficiency analyst for a grocery chain in their receiving departments, which as it turned out, was an incredible experience. It introduced me to all different types of hardworking people, taught me how to talk to a wider array of people, and how to come up with constructive solutions and messages to hard situations and/or people who may be resistant to change.
Who has been a significant influence in your life and career? I was blessed with an amazing family and many great mentors, but I would say my dad. He spent his career as an educator and daily demonstrated not only an incredible work ethic but passion for what he did. His example is why, almost 20 years ago, I left the practice of law in Seattle to become an advisor, so I, too, could spend a career following a passion that brought the best out of me in service of others.
What's the best piece of advice you've received? The path to where you want to go, likely goes right through what you fear most. All the best decisions I've made required overcoming doubt/fear and taking the harder road, not walking through an "open" door.
What's a fact about you that most people would be surprised to learn? My outwardly reserved demeanor masks a pretty sentimental personality.
