Spokane City Credit Union plans to build a 2,300-square-foot administrative building next to the financial institution's only branch location, at 1930 N. Monroe, preliminary permit information on file with the city of Spokane shows.

The building will be constructed at the site of the former Prohibition Gastropub building, located at 1914 N. Monroe. That restaurant closed down in August. 

Preliminary design plans call for the construction of a one-story office structure where the restaurant building is currently situated. The new credit union space will have five offices in the building, along with a board room, a break room, restrooms, and spaces for mechanical, information technology, and storage areas.

The estimated cost of the new admin building is $950,000, according to permit information.

Spokane-based MMEC Architecture & Interiors LLC is the project architect. No contractor is listed on the predevelopment application.

A demolition permit hasn't yet been filed to take down the restaurant building.

Spokane City Credit Union purchased the 5,000-square-foot restaurant property in September for $725,000, Washington state tax information shows.

The credit union had $58.7 million in deposits and $64.9 million in total assets in Spokane County as of Dec. 31, 2023, according to the Journal's annual list of Spokane-area credit unions, published in June. 

The financial institution serves city of Spokane employees, Spokane Transit Authority employees, and residents of Washington state and North Idaho. Spokane City Credit Union reported a total of 4,254 members at the end of 2023.
