Spokane and Gonzaga University have been selected as a potential team base camp site for FIFA World Cup 26.
FIFA, the international soccer governing body, describes the base camps as hubs where teams can train and prepare for matches during the tournament's group stage.
North America is the host for FIFA World Cup 26, during which teams from 48 countries will compete at host cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in June and July of 2026. Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, are among the host cities. Spokane is one 49 potential training sites that a team could choose. Other potential base camp sites in the Pacific Northwest are the Seattle Sounders FC Performance Centre and Clubhouse in Renton, Washington, and Boise State University.
In a press release reacting to the news, Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown says the announcement "underscores Spokane's growing reputation as a sports destination city."
In the same release, Spokane Sports CEO Ashley Blake says, "As an experienced host city, we are ready to provide a world-class welcome to any FIFA World Cup 2026 team that selects Spokane as its base camp."
