Maverick Inc., the Salt Lake City-based convenience store and gas station chain, plans to construct another outlet on Spokane’s North Side.
A city of Spokane predevelopment application, which begins the planning process in the city, shows a Maverik store is proposed for a 1-acre lot at 6710 N. Division. That lot, which is at the northeast corner of Division Street and Lyons Avenue, is designated for general retail use.
City of Spokane records show the property on which the Maverik would be built is owned by Spokane developer Harlan Douglass.
North Salt Lake City, Utah-based JZW Architects is listed as the project architect on the approximately $1.5-million project. A general contractor hasn’t been determined, according to the application.
Plans call for a single-story convenience store to be 4,600 square feet with a height of just over 29 feet, the application says.
Maverik’s other Spokane-area gas stations are located on South Regal Street, on the South Hill; East Francis Avenue, on the North Side; East Montgomery Avenue, in Spokane Valley; North Evergreen Road, also in Spokane Valley, and East Montgomery Avenue, just north of downtown Spokane.
Maverik spokeswoman Erin Strong says the company built its first store in Eastern Washington in Sunnyside in December 2010. Since then, the company has opened 15 more stores throughout the region.
She says the company is recovering favorably from the initial economic downturn experienced due to government mandated stay-at-home orders implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19.
“Fuel volume and in-store fresh food sales initially struggled but have recovered somewhat,” Strong says. “We’re extremely grateful for the customers and employees who are supporting added safety measures.”
