Washington State University Spokane is planning renovations valued at $900,000 at its Center for Clinical Research and Simulation building, at 412 E. Front, according to a permit application on file with the city.
Some of the school’s facilities operations team will be relocated to the upgraded building from the current facility at the northeast corner of Pine Street and Main Avenue, next to the Jensen-Byrd building.
“CCRS already houses some of our facilities and grounds team, so this consolidation will allow us to achieve some added efficiency,” says Chantell Cosner, director of marketing and strategic communications for WSU Spokane. “The remodel work will reconfigure some space in the CCRS for those purposes.”
The renovation project is expected to occur throughout the summer, Cosner says.
Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, is the contractor on the project, and Spokane-based NAC Architecture is designing it, while MW Consulting Engineers PS, of Spokane, is providing engineering services, the permit application shows.
The project will be funded by a portion of the $7 million in state funding allocated for the design and planning of the school’s envisioned Team Health Education building, Cosner says.
The Team Health building will serve as a health care simulation facility for the school’s health science students.
Cosner says a location for the Team Health building hasn’t been selected yet, but several options are being considered.
“We see this facility as an opportunity for continued investment in the University District and downtown Spokane, enhancing both connectivity and access,” she says.
The Journal reported in March that one of the locations being considered for the Team Health facility is the North Pine Street site next to the Jensen-Byrd building, where the facilities operations team will be relocated from.
A portion of a parking lot on the southeast corner of Spokane Falls Boulevard and Sherman Avenue also is being considered.
Construction for the estimated $60 million to $80 million Team Health project is expected to begin next year.
