Tacoma, Washington-based Action Business Furniture Inc. will assume ownership of Spokane Valley-based Davis Furniture & Equipment Inc., which does business as Davis Office Furniture, on May 1.

Under the new ownership, Davis Office Furniture will move to a new 11,000-square-foot space at 7501 E. Sprague from slightly smaller quarters at 10614 E. Sprague and will transition to the Action Business Furniture brand.

Byron Richmond, co-owner of Action Business Furniture, says the change in location is intended to give the store more visibility. The new location sits across Sprague from the Dishman Dodge Ram Chrysler Jeep dealership.

Action Business Furniture currently has stores in Tacoma and Olympia, Washington.

The change in ownership and location is a result of the retirement of Paul Davis, who founded Davis Office Furniture in 1993. 

“I’ve known Paul (Davis) for about 25 years,” Richmond says. “About three years ago, he approached us that he wanted to retire, and we helped him along the way to get his business to the point where we wanted to assume it.” 

Richmond says that Davis wants to see his business continue operating. No money changed hands as part of the change in ownership.

Action Business Furniture is retaining Davis’s sales manager and delivery staff and will have four total employees at the new location.

“As we grow and get it going, we’ll add some more sales staff (and) hopefully get busy enough to add some more delivery staff,” Richmond says.

Through the month of April, existing inventory will be marked down by about 40%-50%, Richmond says. 

“Currently, we’re giving everybody the opportunity to buy what’s in the old location at a severe discount, just so we don’t have to move it,” he says. 

Action Business Furniture has excess inventory at its stores on the West Side that will be used to stock the Spokane Valley store. 

“We’re looking forward to joining the Spokane market,” Richmond says. “We just want to bring our style of business over there with some good high-end, name-brand, pre-owned office furniture.”  

Action Business Furniture was founded in 1991 and sells new and pre-owned furniture, repurposing a lot of high-end furniture, Richmond says. 

“That’s what our main forte is,” he says. “We try to keep it out of the landfill.” 

At its new location, Action Business Furniture will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.
