Spokane International Airport has proposed a new $16 million office building on the West Plains, according to a predevelopment building application on file in the city of Spokane.
Project information proposes the construction of a 46,000-square-foot office building to be located on about 3.6 acres of airport property at 9000 W. Airport Drive, west of the airport concourse building.
About two dozen of the airport's 100-plus employees work from second-floor offices, which are currently at capacity at the terminal facility, says Todd Woodard, Spokane International Airport director of marketing and public affairs.
"The Spokane Airport Board authorized the design of a brand-new administrative facility in 2023," he says.
Preliminary architectural designs created by San Francisco-based MWA Architects Inc. show the first floor of the two-story building will have about 40 covered parking spaces near a 2,700-square-foot lobby and reception area.
A 2,000-square-foot board room and varying sizes of storage and utility rooms also will be located on the first floor.
About 44 offices will occupy the second floor, along with two conference rooms and a few smaller admin spaces for mail, reception, and janitorial use.
Design plans for the upper level shows offices are grouped by department for human resources, finance, property management, development and planning, legal, operations, marketing, and executive suites.
In addition to the 40 covered parking spaces, 30 exterior spaces are envisioned south of the building, for a total of 70.
The project team for the airport proposal includes Spokane-based general contractor Bouten Construction Co., and the Spokane office of Turner & Townsend Heery LLC, as construction manager, preliminary application information states.
The Spokane offices of Ardurra Group Inc., GeoEngineers Inc., and DCI Engineers are providing traffic, geotechnical, and civil and structural engineering services, respectively.
Additionally, Michael Terrell, of Michael Terrell-Landscape Architecture PLLC, of Liberty Lake, is listed in planning documents as the landscape architect. FSI Consulting Engineers, of Seattle, is the mechanical and plumbing engineer; PAE Consulting Engineers Inc., of Portland, Oregon, is the electrical, data, and communications engineer; and Luma Lighting Design, also of Portland, is the lighting designer for the building.
Project information submitted to the city of Spokane suggests construction of the admin building could start this winter.
