Cedar Builders Inc., of Spokane, is constructing an $8 million assisted-living center at its Cedar Canyon mixed-use development on the South Hill.
Foundation work on the project was completed last fall, and construction of the 104-unit building began earlier this year, says Scott Naccarato, project manager and part owner of Cedar Builders with family members Stephanie, Richard, and Donna Naccarato.
The 106,000-square-foot building is expected to be finished by late summer, he says.
The facility, which will be called Harbor Crest at Cedar Canyon Estates, will be operated by S.L. Start & Associates, of Spokane. S.L. Start already is operating other senior-housing facilities at Cedar Canyon, which include 12 high-end units, called homes and cottages, for seniors who need little or no assistance, and 40 Alzheimers units. The private, for-profit company also owns and operates the Northpointe Retirement Community on Spokanes North Side.
The homes and cottages at Cedar Canyon are finished, and S.L. Start has just begun to market them, says Ann Buth, the companys marketing director. One of the two buildings that make up the Alzheimers facility is finished and is expected to open in May, she says. Work still is under way on the second of those buildings, Naccarato says.
The assisted-living center will include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, ranging in size from 450 square feet of floor space to more than 900 square feet, Buth says.
The building is being constructed directly south of the Albertsons Food & Drug Store in the Cedar Canyon development, which is at the southeast corner of 57th Avenue and Regal Street. Besides senior housing, the 27-acre Cedar Canyon projectwhich was developed by Cedar Buildersincludes a 104-unit apartment complex and nearly 95,000-square-feet of retail and commercial space.
