Chapter Eleven Inc., of Spokane, has closed the doors of its last restaurant here at the northeast corner of Ruby Street and Mission Avenue.
Vern Byrd, of Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, who is the listing agent for the restaurant business, says the real estate company also is trying to sell the restaurants furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
Byrd says the restaurant closed about two weeks ago because its owner, Jim Eagle, who resides in Yakima, didnt want to continue to operate the restaurant on an absentee basis. Eagle had been partners with Spokane restaurateur Jim Becker in Chapter Eleven, but Becker sold his interest earlier this year, Byrd says. During the past several months, the restaurant also had lost several other key personnel, making it difficult for Eagle to operate the business on his own from Yakima, Byrd says.
Attempts to reach Eagle were unsuccessful.
Chapter Eleven has leased the building at 105 E. Mission for the past 30 years, Byrd says. He says its unclear what will happen to the building now.
Chapter Eleven had operated three restaurants in Spokane at one time. The restaurant closed its locations at 9304 N. Division and 7720 E. Sprague in 1998. At that time, Becker had said that trying to serve the Spokane community with three locations didnt seem financially feasible anymore. It had kept its Mission eatery open, however, because it was the most central location.
