Meridian, Idaho-based Western States Equipment Co. is moving forward with its planned $30 million Caterpillar dealership in Liberty Lake.
Western States is building a 117,300-square-foot Caterpillar dealership at 20150 E. Cataldo, where it will relocate its entire Spokane workforce when the company occupies the space next year, says Kelly Olson, Western States president, in a press release about the project.
The construction work started on Feb. 16, the same day the company celebrated its 65th anniversary as a Caterpillar dealer.
Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, is the contractor on the project, which was designed by Pete Rockwell, of Boise-based Glancey Rockwell & Associates Inc.
The company will break ground on the site this month, says Heather Black, procurement services manager and the project manager for the Liberty Lake project.
The dealership project includes a 106,000-square-foot, two-story main building, a 10,700-square-foot, two-story rental building, a single-story, and 680 square feet of smaller outbuildings.
The building will be constructed with cross-laminated timber from Colville-based Vaagen Timbers LLC.
Other improvements include landscaping and a half-mile walking path.
Western States had originally planned to begin construction in September, but the project was paused during a dispute between the company and the city of Spokane Valley over the wear that heavy trucks could put on Cataldo Avenue inside the city.
An agreement reached in December allows the project to move forward.
