Condo project mulled just west of downtown

As proposed, building would have up to nine living units; work may start this summer

February 26, 1997
Linn Parish

Baron Holding Co. LLC, of Spokane, is eyeing development of a high-end condominium building, overlooking the Spokane River just west of downtown in Peaceful Valley, documents filed with the city of Spokane show.

The company has filed with the city a State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) application, which addresses potential environmental impacts of the proposed development of a six- to nine-unit condominium building at 1923 W. Clarke.

Greg Van Houten, registered agent for Baron Holding, declines for now to comment on the project, says Pat Kenney, a real estate agent with F.S. Barrett & Co., of Spokane, who is an agent for Van Houten.

Terry Danzer, plans reviewer with the city, says the period for public comment on the proposed project ended May 16, and the city didnt receive any public comments on the project or the SEPA application. The city likely will make a determination of environmental non-significance on the project, Danzer says.

Baron Holding neither has submitted construction plans to the city yet nor requested a building permit, he says.

The SEPA application says that the building would be up to four stories tall, would include between six and nine living units, and would be built on 1.1 acres of land.

The units are characterized in the application as mid- to high-income housing.

A construction timeline outlined in the filing shows that work could start this summer and continue until next May.
