Rosauers Supermarkets Inc., the Spokane-based 21-store regional grocery chain, is planning a $3 million expansion and remodel at its store in the Lincoln Heights shopping district, on Spokanes South Hill.
As part of the project, says Rosauers President and CEO Jeff Philipps, the company will add to the supermarket a Huckleberrys Fresh Market department, which will have a mix of natural and organic products like those carried at the companys Huckleberrys store on Spokanes lower South Hill. It will be the 10th supermarket with a Huckleberrys department, he says.
Philipps says the company hopes to select a contractor next month and to start work on improvements at its store on 29th and Southeast Boulevard in early February. The project is expected to take up to six months to complete.
He says Dave Black, the owner of the retail center in which that supermarket is located, plans to make some exterior improvements to the rest of the shopping complex. Black, however, couldnt be reached for comment.
The Rosauers addition will be constructed at the east end of the supermarket. The addition will include about 3,000 square feet of floor space, giving the store a total of 56,000 square feet of space, Philipps says.
The new space will house the stores bakery-production operations, he says.
The remodeling part of the project will involve rearranging and updating some of the stores departments.
The stores pharmacy will move just west of its current location to a space that once housed an in-store bank branch. A drive-through window will be added to the pharmacy, he says.
The meat and deli departments, located at the far west end of the supermarket, will be updated and expanded. The produce department will move to the west end of the store, and the Huckleberrys space and an expanded wine section will be just east of the new produce section.
The remodel and expansion will be the supermarkets first update since 1997.
