Furniture Row Cos., of Denver, which already operates a Furniture Row Outlet store on Spokanes North Side, says it plans to open four jointly-located stores of different types in Spokane Valley by early next year.
To house the stores, the furniture retailer plans to build a one-level, roughly 54,000-square-foot building on about 6 acres of land at 13410 E. Indiana, just south of the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Mirabeau Road and west of the Spokane Valley Mall, says Richard Morean, manager of corporate real estate and development for the company. The company bought that land several years ago from Hanson Industries Inc., of Spokane Valley, the Journal reported previously.
Furniture Row Cos. is a group of specialty home furnishings and bedding retailers operating under five different store brands, and the new building will include four of those brands, Morean says. They are Oak Express, Bedroom Expressions, Sofa Mart, and Denver Mattress. The other brand, Furniture Row Outlet, wont have a presence there. The building will have an entry for each store, so it will look similar to a retail center, rather than one store, Morean says.
The company plans to hire 25 to 30 employees to work at the stores, he says.
Construction is expected to start by June and to be completed by January, Morean says. Taylor Kohrs, of Denver, is the contractor, and Intergroup Architects, of Littleton, Colo., designed the building. Morean declines to disclose the cost of the project.
Furniture Row Cos. has 300 stores in 30 states, including outlets in Yakima and Kennewick, and builds about eight to 12 stores a year, he says. He declines to disclose its annual revenues.
