CPM Development Corp., of Spokane Valley, which owns Central Pre-Mix Concrete Co. and Inland Asphalt Co. here, has extended its reach farther west by acquiring the names and assets of several operations owned by Salem, Ore.-based J.C. Compton Co.
Earlier this month, CPM Development acquired River Bend Sand & Gravel Co., Salem Road & Driveway Co., and Valley Concrete & Gravel Co., says Jeff Schaffer, the Spokane Valley companys president. The operations are based in Salem and are longtime suppliers of concrete, asphalt, paving, sand, and gravel in that area, Schaffer says. He declines to disclose the dollar value of the transaction.
Theyre a very highly regarded company in Oregon, Schaffer says of Compton. Were looking to expand our operations in the Northwest, and it was a good fit for us.
Schaffer says CPM Development is looking for opportunities to expand elsewhere in the region, but declines to disclose further details.
The three Salem operations have a combined total of about 160 employees, and CPM Development plans to retain those workers, he says. The businesses will continue to operate under their current names and out of their offices in Salem, Schaffer says.
CPM Development currently has more than 1,500 employees, Schaffer says. Its the parent of seven operations in Washington and North Idaho, including Central Pre-Mix Prestress Co., in Spokane, and Interstate Concrete & Asphalt Co., in Coeur dAlene, he says. CPM Development is a division of Washington D.C.-based Oldcastle Materials Inc., he says.
