A Spokane developer plans to convert a century-old building near the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on the South Hill into four luxury condominiums.
The condo project, to be called Cathedral Point, is owned by Jordalen Tangen Development LLC, and is located at 2 E. Sumner, just across Grand Boulevard west of St. Johns. The three-story structure overlooks downtown to the north and historic homes to the west, says listing agent Marianne Guenther, of Windermere Real Estate/Manito LLC.
The building, a former mansion that was at one time converted into apartments, has been gutted to make room for the upscale condos. Construction is expected to begin in March, Guenther says.
Kretz Construction Co., of Spokane, is the builder, although buyers will have the option of hiring their own builders to make interior improvements to the condos, Guenther says. Prices start at $387,000 for an unfinished shell and approach $700,000 for a fully finished unit.
Three units, each of which will take up an entire floor of the existing building, will have about 2,200 square feet of space. The penthouse, which will be added atop the building, will be about 1,500 square feet. Suggested designs for each unit have two to three bedrooms and 2.5 baths.
The basement of the building will be converted into a four-space garage, he says. In addition, each unit will have a parking space in a detached garage.
Ewa Piastucha, of NP Architecture PS, of Spokane, is the architect. The designer is Downtown Kitchen & Design, a division of Kimberlee Co., of Spokane.
