Three major retailersTarget Corp., Lowes Cos., and The Home Depot Inc.are rumored to be considering opening stores at the planned Pointe at Post Falls retail development where a Cabelas Inc. outlet will be built, says Post Falls Mayor Clay Larkin.
In his State of the City address at a Post Falls Chamber of Commerce breakfast Dec. 16, Larkin said he had been told that Minneapolis-based Target was looking at building a 200,000-square-foot superstore at the planned 925,000-square-foot shopping center. He also said he had been told that Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowes and Atlanta-based Home Depot were considering building outlets there.
In an interview earlier this week, Larkin confirmed that a corporate representative from Sydney, Neb.-based Cabelas had told him last fall that Target was eyeing the Pointe at Post Falls. He said he heard rumors about Lowes and Home Depot outlets.
Everybody is playing all these very close to the vest, Larkin says. Lowes and Home Depotthose names float around all the time.
Representatives of Carlsbad, Calif.-based Foursquare Properties Inc., which is developing the center, and of Target and Home Depot couldnt be reached for comment. Lowes declines to comment.
Still, Larkin says Cabelas plans to open its store in mid-October, and other retailers likely will want to coordinate the opening of their stores with the sporting goods giants opening. Consequently, he believes retailers will start making announcements this spring.
In March I expect some big names to start popping up, and I think theyre going to come quick and furious, Larkin says. Were doing our best to get ready for it, and were feeling pretty good right now that we can handle it.
