The Spokane office of Seattle-based Olympic Associates Co. has been named construction manager for projects northwest of Spokane and in the Tri-Cities with a total value of about $35.5 million.
Olympic Associates will oversee $18.5 million in work in the Nine Mile Falls School District and a $17 million job for the city of Richland, says Jeff Jurgensen, project manager for Olympic here.
The Nine Mile Falls district projects will involve expansion and modernization of the Lake Spokane and Nine Mile Falls elementary schools, with construction expected to begin in August 2008. Nine Mile Falls Elementary School is located about nine miles northwest of Spokane on the west side of the Spokane River near the Nine Mile Falls community, while Lake Spokane Elementary is several miles farther north in the Suncrest development on state Route 291.
A total of about 30,000 square feet of new floor space will be added at the two schools, including an additional wing at Lake Spokane Elementary School, and a total of 44,000 square feet of space will be renovated at the two schools. Jurgensen says a general contractor for the two school projects will be selected through a request-for-qualifications process.
Also, the company has been chosen by the city of Richland to manage a remodeling of the Richland City Library, which is an approximately $17 million project that is expected to go out to bid for construction in January or February 2008. Jurgensen says that project will be bid as a design-build package.
Olympic Associates was founded in Seattle in 1955 and employs about 70 people there. Jurgensen opened its Spokane office in October 2006 and is its sole employee here. He says the company is seeking to add one or two additional project management staff here.
