Sheri House, owner of Mountain View Gymnastics Inc., of Airway Heights, says she hopes to consolidate the business into a renovated building this summer.
House says the gymnastics center, which has about 300 students and 16 coaches, is outgrowing its current leased spaces. Its main program space at 1100 S. Garfield and its preschool location a few blocks to the southwest, at 12417 W. 13th.
She bought the warehouse building at 12429 W. 13th, next to the preschool location, about two years ago for the planned move, but understanding city requirements for renovating the space has taken time, she says.
House says her husband, Darryll House, will be the contractor for the renovations, which will expand the usable space from 7,000 square feet to about 10,800 square feet.
“The heat hasn’t been running in it for quite a few years, so all of that needs to be upgraded, and we have to put a parking lot in,” House says.
In addition to the 23 parking stalls in the lot on the building’s east side, 23 stalls will created in the new parking lot on the west side, she says.
House says that ideally, she’d like to move into the renovated space this summer.
“The city made it very clear that we had to have the parking lot done before we could move in,” she says. “Now that we have that information, we can start getting bids on the new parking lot.”
House declines to disclose a cost estimate for renovations and parking lot construction.
She says she hopes to expand Mountain View Gymnastics’ offerings after the move.
“We’d like to open up a dance studio,” she says.
Mountain View Gymnastics currently offers gymnastics, cheerleading, tumbling, and ninja classes, which combine elements of gymnastics, martial arts, and freestyle parkour.
Classes for preschool accept children 18 months to five years. Gymnastics, cheerleading, tumbling, and ninja classes accept children 6 years and older. Mountain View also offers classes from September through June for children 5 years and older who are homeschooled.
House says she’s currently hiring and will continue to look for additional coaches after the move.
