An investment group has bought Northwest Outfitters, a Coeur d'Alene fly shop, and plans to move it to the Riverstone mixed-use development, the store says.
The group, On the Fly LLC, of Coeur d'Alene, has bought the business from Bob Drummond, who opened Northwest Outfitters, at 402 W. Canfield, near the northern edge of Coeur d'Alene in 1997, says Pat Way, the manager. SRM, the developer of the Village at Riverstone, put the investment group together, says SRM spokesman Mike Craven.
When the shop moves, it will occupy 1,800 square feet of floor space next to Boardwalk Boutique in Building B, a residential and retail building on Main Street there.
Way says Northwest Outfitters was attractive to SRM, which wanted such an established business in the Riverstone development. Riverstone is located between Northwest Boulevard and the Spokane River.
"They are looking for lifestyle stores and we have 11 years of clientele," he says.
The shop, which offers a full line of Orvis fly-fishing products, is liquidating its stock at the Canfield location, which it plans to close on Dec. 23, Way says. It will reopen at Riverstone in March "with the same employees, products, and name," he says.
Northwest Outfitters has four full-time employees and hires three or four seasonal employees as needed, he says. It also has relationships with eight fishing guides.
Way says the new store space will be smaller than the Canfield location, but will allow more efficient use of floor and wall space.
"This store has a dozen windows and a sales counter in the middle of the floor, which reduces our display area," he says of the current location.
Way says the shop also is arranging to use the six-acre pond at Riverstone Park inside the development for occasional casting demonstrations and instruction.
