working on a $500,000 remodeling and expansion of the Twin Lakes Village Golf Club clubhouse and also has landed a $250,000 contract for a remodel of a former jail in Rathdrum.
The Twin Lakes project entails expanding the golf course's clubhouse by about 4,200 square feet, giving it a total of 12,400 square feet of floor space, as well as gutting and remodeling the older space there, says Rathdrum architect Paul Matthews, who designed the project. Small's Construction also will remodel the exterior of the building, says Jim Small, president of the company.
In the project, the pro shop will be relocated from the basement to the main floor, the snack bar and restaurant will be expanded, a meeting room will be added, and a mezzanine level will be built for administrative offices, Matthews says.
The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of March, also includes handicap accessibility upgrades and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements, he says.
At about the same time that project wraps up, construction is scheduled to begin on the first phase of a planned remodel of a building in Rathdrum that housed the Kootenai County Jail 100 years ago. That building currently is owned by the Rathdrum/Westwood Historical Society, which uses it for special events and archive storage.
Small's Construction will restore the exterior of the building and will reconstruct a tower that was removed from it in the 1970s. It also will restore part of the interior of the building.
The building was built in the 1890s, but the county jail was moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1908, Matthews says. Since then, the building has been used for various functions, Matthews says, including as a Rathdrum city jail, a city shop building, and a library, he says. The historical society has owned it for the past 15 years.
This first phase of work is expected to be completed in the fall, Matthews says. The society hopes to restore the entire building to its original condition, he says.
