Numerica Credit Union, of Spokane, says its net income fell by 3 percent in 2008, but its loans as of year-end were up 14.2 percent from a year earlier.
Numerica's net income fell to $5.5 million in 2008, from $5.7 million in 2007.
As of Dec. 31, total loans were $650 million, up from $568.6 million at the end of 2007. Loan charge-offs, however, jumped by about 50 percent to $3 million, the credit union says.
Numerica listed deposits of $670.8 million as of Dec. 31, up 9.3 percent from $613.7 million a year earlier. Its total assets at year-end were $825.2 million, up 9.93 percent from $750.6 million in 2007.
The credit union reported a 0.71 percent return on average assets in 2008, down from 0.81 percent in 2007. Membership rose to about 75,800 members, up from 71,300 the year before. In 2007, membership had dropped some, from 72,400 members in 2006.
For 2009, the credit union is projecting a 16.8 percent increase in loans, an 8.26 percent increase in deposits, and a 12.46 percent increase in total assets, says spokeswoman Kelli Hawkins.
The credit union opened two new branches in 2008, in Airway Heights and in Moses Lake, Wash. It doesn't plan to open any new branches this year, Hawkins says.
