Diamond Rock Construction Inc., a Spokane Valley builder and developer, plans to erect a four-building 66-unit apartment complex in Spokane Valley.
The project, tentatively called Appleway 66, will be located at 10108 E. Sprague, west of the University City Mall, says Dennis Crapo, owner of Diamond Rock Construction.
Crapo declines to disclose construction costs for the project, but the city of Spokane Valley lists its value at $1.6 million in building permit information. While that valuation appears to be significantly lower than comparable projects, it's subject to change as the project proceeds through the planning process, says Carolbelle Branch, spokeswoman for Spokane Valley.
Crapo says he expects building permits to be issued soon, and construction will take 10 months to complete. The project will include four three-story structures that range in size from 12,900 to 18,100 square feet of floor space, and the apartments will have one to three bedrooms, the building permit application shows.
The project was designed by Wyatt Architects & Associates PS, of Spokane Valley. Whipple Consulting Engineers Inc., of Spokane, is the project engineer.
Crapo says apartment units in the Appleway 66 complex will be similar in design to the Rosewood Apartments, a 32-unit two-building complex at 15901 E. Sprague, which Diamond Rock completed in 2007 at a cost of $3.2 million. Apartment units there range in size from one to three bedrooms with 900 to 1,100 square feet of floor space.
Diamond Rock Construction also recently completed the Barker Ridge Apartments, a $3 million, 26-unit apartment building, at 18517 E. Boone.
