A Hayden, Idaho, wood-products concern and an Otis Orchards wholesaler of cedar products both have decided to relocate to a shared lumber yard and 10,000-square-foot warehouse in Spokane Valley and split expenses there, representatives of the companies say.
Earlier this month, the Hayden company, Coeur Lumber Group LLC, which produces custom wood products, moved to the 10,000-square-foot warehouse and a 2,000-square-foot office and showroom at 7404 E. Indiana, in the Valley. Previously, it had leased 2,500 square feet of floor space at 10632 N. Government Way, in Hayden, for its sales and corporate office.
Meanwhile, Spokane Cedar Products Inc., currently located at 25170 E. Kildea, in Otis Orchards, will begin operating in the same space on Indiana as Coeur Lumber later this month, says Lyle Haas, a company representative. Spokane Cedar Products, which has been in its current location since July 2003, employs four people and serves retailers and contractors, he says.
The two companies together will be leasing two-and-a-half acres of property, including the warehouse, office, and showroom, says Shane Heick, who owns Coeur Lumber with Damon Shaw and Scott Carter. The two companies are leasing the property from Steve Gray and Pamela Bording-Gray, who own Intermountain Supply Inc., which previously had operated there, Heick says.
Intermountain, a roofing and vinyl siding wholesaler, built a new facility, at 7011 E. Mission, and relocated.
"We feel like the Spokane market is stronger and is going to rebound sooner" from the recession than the Hayden area, Heick says. "We're trying to go where the most activity is going to be."
Coeur Lumber, which started in March 2008, decided it needed to stock materials in a yard near its showroom that were ready for purchase. Its primary customers are high-end custom home builders.
The company will continue to lease about five acres and a 1,200-square-foot shop and production center that serves as its lumber-mill operation north of Hayden, Heick says. It produces siding, timber framing, and moulding. The company plans to keep that facility, he says.
The company employs seven people, five in the Valley and two at the mill near Hayden.
Heick says Coeur Lumber's three owners would like to grow the business and hire additional support and sales staff eventually.
Heick says Coeur Lumber and Spokane Cedar Products have a good relationship, and the new location would be too large for either one to operate independently. He says sharing expenses will help both companies in the current economic recession.
