MDM Construction Inc., of Hayden, Idaho, has been awarded a $1.7 million contract for a city of Spokane project to rehabilitate a portion of Lincoln Street on Spokane's South Hill and to construct an experimental storm-water runoff project at Cannon Hill Park.
The runoff project, which accounts for $859,000 of the contract amount, is expected to remove up to 86,000 gallons of storm water from the city's combined sewer and storm-water system when it rains hard, reducing the treatment burden at the city's wastewater treatment plant, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.
MDM will begin the work at Cannon Hill Park, located just east of Lincoln Street on 19th Avenue, this fall.
The work includes installing a subsurface drainage system, Deasy says. That same runoff project also will include construction of storm-water collection cells at the park to collect and treat storm water, and construction of a separate piping system to separate storm-water flows from the combined sewer system, which flows to the city's wastewater treatment plant.
The storm-water portion of the overall project is being paid for by the city's wastewater management department, Deasy says.
Work on the $863,000 curb-to-curb rehabilitation of Lincoln Street, between 17th and 29th avenues, won't begin until spring, Deasy says. That work also will include sidewalk repairs and curb replacement at intersections, and won't involve the removal of any trees. Detours for the project haven't been worked out yet, Deasy says. The project is being paid for with funds from the 10-year street bond, she says.
