American Drapery to move to larger space in the Valley

Renton-based company also will begin marketing flooring products here

November 25, 2009
David Cole

Renton, Wash.-based American Drapery, Blind & Carpet says it plans to move its longtime store on East Sprague further east to larger quarters, and also will begin selling flooring products at the new location.

Wendy Edwards, a Renton-based residential regional manager for the company, says the Spokane store will move early next month to 2709 N. Felts Lane, where it will occupy about 5,000 square feet of leased floor space. The business has been leasing about 3,000 square feet of space at 3811 E. Sprague, a couple blocks east of Freya Street, for nearly 20 years, Edwards says.

The store sells blinds, shades, shutters, drapes, and other window coverings to businesses, homeowners, and property managers and offers installation of the products it sells. By early next spring, the store will begin offering flooring products, including carpet, laminate, hardwood, and tile, Edwards says. She says American Drapery decided to add a flooring division in Spokane because it has the established customer base "to make it go." The company has been selling flooring products at its Renton store, she says.

American Drapery employs 72 people overall, including those who work at its Renton, Bellingham, and Spokane locations, Edwards says. In addition to its showroom in Renton, it also does some manufacturing of products there, such as draperies, bedding, and blinds, she says.

For the Spokane Valley store, the company plans to hire a manager who also will be the operation's flooring specialist. The store is being managed on an interim basis by its office manager. In addition, the company plans to hire a new interior decorator and designer for the store because the interior decorator here plans to retire, Edwards says.
