T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane Valley, has won a $12.1 million contract with Central Washington University to construct a new building for the university's industrial and engineering technology program at its Ellensburg, Wash., campus. Separately, T.W. Clark also currently is building a $600,000 commercial building in Coeur d'Alene for Phones Plus Inc.
The Spokane contractor expects to begin work on the university project right after Thanksgiving and to work on it through the winter, says Scott Rountree, a project manager for T.W. Clark. The job will continue for about 17 months, he says.
In the project, the company will construct a 61,400-square-foot steel building that will be connected to the university's Hogue Hall. The new structure will have three stories with a fourth-floor suite to house the building's mechanical systems.
Ultimately, the new building will house metal shop, wood shop, and construction management classes, and will include teaching laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices, and support spaces, Rountree says. Seattle-based LMN Architects designed the project.
In Coeur d'Alene, T.W. Clark is constructing a new building for Coeur d'Alene-based cell phone provider Phones Plus Inc., at 430 W. Hanley. The 3,600-square-foot concrete-block and steel-frame building is expected to be completed around mid-January, says Scott Sunleaf, a T.W. Clark project manager. Wolfe Architectural Group PS, of Spokane, designed the project, he says.
Phones Plus says it will relocate one of its stores to the new building from its current location at 213 Canfield. The Hanley Avenue location has better visibility from U.S. 95, says company spokeswoman Rachel Petersen. The new larger building will allow Phones Plus to increase its showroom space and add more interactive displays, but it doesn't have plans to add additional staff members, she says.
Phones Plus also owns the building on Canfield, which has four commercial storefronts. It has been occupying a 1,500-square-foot space there, and now will lease out that space. It also has leased another space in that center to a Batteries Plus franchisee, who will open a store there in the next few weeks, Petersen says. Phones Plus operates four stores in Idaho and five stores in Oregon, Petersen says.
