The operator of the Olive Garden Restaurant chain has applied for a permit to build a $1.3 million "new Olive Garden" at the site of a former Hollywood Video Store near Northpointe Plaza.
The operator, GMRI Inc., of Orlando, Fla., submitted an application for a building permit to the city of Spokane on Feb. 17. The application says the company would demolish the Hollywood Video building at 9780 N. Newport Highway, and build a single-story structure in its place. The plans say the structure would have 7,100 square feet of restaurant and dining space, along with 330 square feet dedicated to cold food storage.
Terry Danzer, a city of Spokane deputy building official, says the permit application is being reviewed, a process that could take up to eight weeks.
The plans list CHRO Architects Inc., of Tustin, Calif., as the architect, but says a contractor hasn't been selected yet. The property is owned by a company called San Pablo Acres LLC, of Manhattan, Nev.
Darden Restaurants Inc., of Orlando, is GMRI Inc.'s parent company. GMRI operates an Olive Garden Restaurant in downtown Spokane, and opened a Red Lobster Restaurant last year at Northtown Square. In addition to the Olive Garden and Red Lobster chains, Darden owns and operates several other restaurant chains, including LongHorn Steakhouse, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, and Capital Grille restaurants.
