Spokane-based Enduris Washington, a government cooperative that buys insurance and manages claims on behalf of member agencies, says it plans to develop a $3.2 million office building on the West Plains here.
The single-story, 20,000-square-foot building will be located on 3.5 acres of land at 1810 Technology Blvd. at the southwest corner of Technology Boulevard and Hilton Avenue in the Pacific Northwest Technology Park, says Mark Kammers, Enduris' executive director.
The building will accommodate Enduris' anticipated growth for the next 20 years, Kammers says. The cooperative currently occupies smaller quarters, at 5709 W. Sunset Highway, just west of the Spokane city limits, and employs 12 people there. It will occupy about half of the new building and will lease out the rest, Kammers says.
The project is in the early design stage, but plans include a 2,000-square-foot training and meeting room that will accommodate 75 people and will be available to private and public groups, he says.
OMS Inc., of Spokane, is designing the project, and Dowers Commercial Real Estate Group Inc., of Spokane, is the project manager. A general contractor will be selected through a competitive bidding process this summer, Kammers says. Construction is scheduled to start on Sept. 15, with a target completion date of May 31, 2011.
Enduris, which will own the building, bought the land from Granite Investments LLC, which is headed by Spokane developer Dick Vandervert. Jason Strain, of Vandervert Developments LLC, and David Dowers, of Dowers Commercial Real Estate Group, handled the transaction.
Enduris was founded in 1987 and today includes nearly 450 government entities throughout Washington state that pool their resources to buy property and liability insurance from the commercial market at volume discounts, Kammers says. The cooperative also seeks to reduce members' insurance costs by managing claims and providing risk-management services, he says.
