OCH International Inc., the Portland-based operator of the Oil Can Henry's chain of auto lube outlets, plans to open a store in the Sundance Plaza shopping center in northwest Spokane. That will be its fourth in the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene area, and more are being considered.
Vandervert Construction Inc., of Spokane, is developing the new outlet for OCH at 5220 W. Lowell Road, says Justin Gray, who is managing the project for Vandervert. The 2,800-square-foot structure will be located at the south end of the Sundance Plaza property.
The new building is expected to be completed in three months at a cost of about $420,000, Gray says. Vandervert Developments LLC will lease the building and the site to OCH. Rick Bertholf, of Vandervert, is handling the transactions.
Oil Can Henry's offers oil changes, and other services such as automatic-transmission, cooling-system, and power-steering flushes. Drivers stay in their cars during the service and can watch technicians work under their hoods and undercarriages through a video monitor.
Two other Oil Can Henry's outlets, in Coeur d'Alene at 124 Hanley Avenue and 1830 N. Third, are also corporately owned. A third, at 12108 N. Division, in the Wandermere Village shopping center, is owned by a franchisee.
OCH franchisees Bob and Barbara Davisson opened that outlet, the first Oil Can Henry's in Spokane, in the summer of 2008, and Bob Davisson says his five-year plan is to own three or four more franchises here. He says he's looking at locations on the South Hill and in Spokane Valley.
Bob Bailey, vice president of real estate for OCH, says, "We are looking at other locations in Spokane. We have plans for additional stores, but nothing is under contract yet."
Adds Marketing Director John Wanderscheid, "We feel that market can handle a number of locations."
Wanderscheid says there are now 86 outlets in eight Western states.
