The Idaho Transportation Department plans to rehabilitate six bridges along Interstate 90, east of Coeur d'Alene, this summer.
The apparent low bidder for that work is a Mukilteo, Wash., company named Penhall Co., which bid $3 million for the project. N.A. Degerstrom Inc., of Spokane, and Westway Construction Inc., of Airway Heights, were among three other companies that submitted bids.
Work is expected to begin around the end of April, says ITD spokeswoman Barbara Babic, and will include rehabilitating bridge decks at Latour Creek, near Cataldo; Hill and Division streets, in Kellogg; South Fork, near Silverton; Cooper Street, in Mullan; and at a Northern Pacific Railroad structure, all in Idaho.
Babic says the bridges all were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, and are in need of deck repairs. The work is expected to take about 65 days to complete, but a schedule hasn't been set yet, Babic says.
