Ghost Quarter Games, a new board game and card shop, has opened at 12622 W. Sunset Highway, in Airway Heights.
The shop is co-owned by Brian Reid and his son, Nick Garcia-Reid, who says his interest in competitive card game Magic the Gathering was the inspiration for the business.
“I’m an avid gamer and play a lot of Magic,” he says. “My father saw how much my friends and I played, and we realized there wasn’t really a shop to cater to the gaming market on this side of town. So, we decided to start one.”
Garcia-Reid says the shop is currently operating in a 2,900-square-foot leased space next door to Domino’s Pizza, where it sells a variety of board and card games, as well as hosting daily game-related events.
“This used to be a movie gallery space, but we did some repainting and carpeting to make it a clean, friendly space for gamers,” he says. “We have three employees, counting myself and my father.”
Looking ahead, Garcia-Reid says the shop hopes to expand into the miniatures market, a form of gaming that incorporates miniature figures, armor, and terrain in play.
“Our goal is to research and really grow to understand that product, so we can bring it to the community here,” he says. “So far, things are going really well.”
