Alpine Deli, at 417 E. Third, closed last month but is set to re-open soon under new ownership.
Alpine is a Bosnian and German delicatessen that has been owned and operated by Adnan Hatkic and his mother, Esma, for the past five years.
Adnan Hatkic says they will retain ownership of the 2,500-square-foot building and surrounding land, but the business itself will soon transition to new owner Andrea Lejeune-Weiler.
“Andrea worked here previously under the former owner, Werner Gaubinger,” he says. “She’ll be closed for a brief transition period but plans to re-open later in May. I think she’ll carry similar products, but probably add her own flair to the place.”
Hatkic says Lejeune-Weiler will hire her own staff, so all five of the business’s previous employees likely will be moving on.
Hatkic says he and his mother decided to close the deli to allow Esma to retire and focus on her health.
“We’ve really enjoyed being here and we’d hoped to keep things going for much longer, but priorities have changed,” he says. “We’ve put all our love and energy into this place and we’re sad to go, but we’re also so thankful for the support of all our customers.”
